The Northern Virginia Community College is working on a T-Shirt 3D Printer. They invited me to come by and show the students how they could use Blender and Bezier Curves to turn 2D ideas into simple 3D models for the T-Shirt Printer. I had an absolutely fantastic time, as I always do talking about 3D Printing. If you missed it, you can still follow along with my slides from SlideShare.
Tonight was the one year anniversary of the Friday 3D Printing Community Hangout! A number of special guests were in the hangout tonight including Heather Womack of #3DPinkMafia fame, Lauren from Abuzz Designs, and even Tessa from SparkyFace5. What a delightful event. I showed up late, but very much enjoyed seeing everyone!
Glenn and Xander hosted the Friday 3D Printing Community Hangout this week. The topic was filaments and I found the discussion fascinating. I found Repkord’s insights on scaling production and the discussion on pellet systems were particularly interesting.
The President of 3DP Events, LLC (the force behind ERRF), @MCHRISP1, was kind enough to give some of my failed Orioles a home. Being from Maryland, he was quite delighted to add one to his Christmas tree….even if their eyes were a little overextruded. : )
I had two monarch butterflies that both lost their antennae. I sent a quick tweet out to the community and offered them up as free to a good home. The Learn 2 Teach program at South End Technology Center quickly volunteered. They used them in a “Migration is Beautiful” display… and wow. That display is beautiful. I should get them to stage all my craft show booths!
Found out about a local Somolia refugee family forced to return to Somalia tomorrow bc of Supreme Court decision.
Last spring, I printed a number of names for a Girls Who Code Event. I inadvertently printed an extra SOPHIA. Rather than let the name sit around indefinitely in my office, I asked if anyone knew a SOPHIA on Twitter. Lo and Behold, Joe Larson, the 3D Printing Professor, knew one and was able to give my extra print a home. (He even printed a companion piece for her sister). It made me smile to see Joe’s report today that the SOPHIA has reached its home.
After a bit of a hiatus, I got to join my friends for the Friday Night 3D Printing Community Hangout. This week, we were at Mitch 3D. The topic– “Making Money with 3D Prints”. I talked about my craft show and Etsy endeavors as well as doing training sessions.
Blogging the trials and successes of 3D Modeling, 3D Printing…and trying to make a business out of the whole thing. : )
